School Psychologist in Dumfries, VA
Step into a vital role supporting the academic and emotional growth of students as a school psychologist in a welcoming educational environment near the Washington DC area, approximately 45 minutes south of the city. This full-time contract position spans from August 11, 2026, to May 26, 2027, offering a consistent weekday schedule from 8:00am to 3:30pm across two school sites.
Your expertise will be focused on assessment, consultation, and functional behavior assessment/behavior intervention plan (FBA/BIP) support, with occasional involvement in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) initiatives. While you'll primarily handle psychological evaluations and consultations, opportunities may arise to collaborate with social workers for student counseling support. Notably, each campus is staffed with educational diagnosticians, so academic achievement testing will not be required.
Key qualifications:
- Active Virginia Department of Education Certification
- Active Virginia Psychology License
- Experience in school or educational settings, particularly in assessment and behavior intervention
- Familiarity with FBA/BIP practices and MTSS is highly desirable
- Ability to engage collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
- Prompt compliance with all credentialing requirements, including a Virginia Department of Social Services background check and current TB test
What you'll do:
- Deliver high-quality psychoeducational assessments and consultations
- Develop and support FBA/BIPs for students as needed
- Offer guidance and collaboration for initiatives that strengthen schoolwide support systems
- Provide occasional counseling consultation in tandem with social work staff
